I Hope You’ll Stay Awhile

Hello and welcome to Freely Femme – A blog about women, for women, by a woman. I am SO excited to finally launch this new project! Although I’ve spent the majority of the last three years focusing primarily on magazine journalism, I actually began my writing career as a blogger in 2015 [not that anything I was writing back then was worth reading lol]. Over the past five years, I’ve tested out a variety of platforms, themes and topics and have rebranded my blogging persona so many times that I’ve lost count. The problem I have is that I can never seem to stick with any one brand long enough to gain any sort of momentum. But, for as long as I’ve known I want to pursue a writing career, I’ve also known I want to create something of my own.

Recently, I was once again making the three hour drive from Cincinnati to Athens, feeling more relaxed and refreshed than I have in a while [you gotta love a month-long, work-free winter break]. I also found myself feeling more inspired than I had in awhile, thanks to The Health Code’s podcast episode “What It Takes To Be An Entrepreneur” [warning: this will probably be the first of MANY references to health and fitness YouTuber, Sarah’s Day #SorryNotSorry]. One thing that really struck me from the episode was the idea of combining your passion with your skillset. I got to thinking and realized that if I had to choose just one thing I’m passionate about, above all, that thing is female empowerment.

As many people who know me personally are already aware, I’ve spent a significant amount of my time at Ohio University deeply involved with CHAARG, a women’s health and wellness organization [also probably not the last time I will reference them ;-)]. Being surrounded by 100+ women who are dedicated to maintaining holistically healthy lifestyles and encouraging others to do the same made me realize how truly magical the support of other women can feel — and that magic deserves to be shared.

I decided to start Freely Femme as a place to share the success of inspiring women in my personal life and beyond as well as health and wellness, product, media and other recommendations that may be of interest to other women my age. Here’s a brief rundown of how the site will be structured:
*Shero Spotlights: A “shero” is a woman admired or idolized for her
courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities. Twice a month, I will feature two women who have inspired me in one way or another. [Pro tip: I’m also open to recommendations! You can nominate the empowering, inspirational #Girlbosses in your life to be featured here.]
*Sweat Recs: Thanks to CHAARG [see, I told you!] I have the opportunity to try new workouts every week and have also become self-motivated to seek out and test different studios on my own. When I find some worth sharing, you’ll be the first to know.
*Friday Favs: Every Friday, I’ll share three of my current favorite things [i.e. activewear brands, books, movies, etc].
*More Blogs: Women are constantly doing incredible things in pop culture, so why would I NOT include it in my content? Here, you’ll find film reviews, book reviews and other personal content that all take a female-focused approach.

I am so excited to begin sharing content with you and can’t wait to see where this new project takes me! So, grab a cup of coffee [or tea, if  that’s your thing], get comfortable and stay awhile.

As a senior studying magazine journalism at Ohio University and a passionate feminist, I created Freely Femme as a way to use my love for storytelling to highlight some of the most inspirational women in my personal life and beyond.
