Happy Birthday, Freely Femme!

You guys … Freely Femme is ONE YEAR OLD!!! Honestly, I can’t believe that it’s already been a year since I posted my first blog post here. But also, in some ways, it feels like it was a lifetime ago.

I started Freely Femme as a way to allow myself a personal creative outlet for my writing that was separate from my journalistic writing. So much has changed over the past year, and it has been so nice to have this blog as a consistent way to channel my inspiration.

Last year, just one month after launching Freely Femme, my life did a complete 180. I left school for spring break and never went back due to the coronavirus pandemic. Around this same time, my relationship ended and stay-at-home orders were at their strictest. With most of my friends in different cities across the country, I struggled for a while to cope with such a drastic life change. Though I had classes and, eventually, my internships, I was still desperate for ways to keep my mind occupied. Freely Femme was the perfect way for me to do that.

Over the past year, I’ve met so many inspiring women from across the country who work in a variety of different industries. From artists to journalists to business owners and more, all of these women have become role models for me in my everyday life. I feel so fortunate to be able to have created a network of women who are incredibly passionate and driven with everything they do and I’m so glad I have a platform where I can share their stories!

If I’ve learned one thing over the past year, it’s that there’s nothing more important than being conscious of where you put your energy. For me, that means putting all of my energy into myself, my friendships and my passions. Freely Femme has given me a sense of identity and empowerment that is now at the core of who I believe I am, and I couldn’t feel more fortunate to have this platform ❤

As a senior studying magazine journalism at Ohio University and a passionate feminist, I created Freely Femme as a way to use my love for storytelling to highlight some of the most inspirational women in my personal life and beyond.
